Asthma Diagnosis

  • "Asthma is diagnosed by the combination of a compatible clinical history ... and objective measures of lung function”; the compatible pulmonary function criteria supportive of an asthma diagnosis are listed in Table 1  under Point of Care Resources.
  • Nurses who identify uncertainty regarding a diagnosis of asthma (i.e., whether or not the person has met the CTS diagnostic criteria) should liaise with the appropriate health-care provider to ensure appropriate follow-up to confirm or refute the diagnosis.
