Antecedents of Conflict

 In addition to the antecedents identified in the Conceptual Model, important antecedents of interpersonal conflict include:

• Lack of communication or understanding of another’s perspectives

• Lack of collaboration and the four components of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management

• A practice environment which neglects leadership, communication, support system and collaborative decision-making

• Organizational culture which involves diminished flexibility, authoritarian leadership, rigid policies and procedures and lack of employee engagement

• Perceived differences in nurses work values
